history

Around 801 a people's church was first mentioned in Reute, which was rebuilt after the devastation by the Hungarians in 926.

In 1403, five women founded the Reute Franciscan convent, including the canonized Waldseer Elisabeth Achler (1386–1420), now known as "Gute Beth".

In 1784/86 the Franciscan convent was forcibly dissolved in the course of the secularization of Joseph II and given into the possession of the current princes of Waldburg-Waldsee .

In 1848, five “Merciful Sisters” founded a community in Ehingen on the Danube , which was recognized as a community by the Bishop of Rottenburg . In 1869 these sisters from Ehingen acquired the monastery buildings in Reute, Upper Swabia, and revitalized the monastery. From 1871 it is the motherhouse of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Reute. In 1999 the Franciscan Sisters of Reute founded the St. Elisabeth Foundation .

Monastery church of St. Peter and Paul

The parish and pilgrimage church of St. Peter and Paul was built after the demolition of the old parish church from 1623 to 1629 above the Klosterberg as a spacious new building with three aisles; the late Romanesque tower from 1250 of the old parish church remained. Abbot Michael III is the client. named by the Augustinian Canons in the Waldsee Monastery ; the financing was secured by Archduke Leopold of Austria, Archduke Ferdinand and Emperor Ferdinand II .

In 1634 the monastery buildings were set on fire by Swedes passing through during the Thirty Years' War before the battle of Nördlingen .

In 1757 the choir stalls were installed. In the run-up to the beatification of Elisabeth Achler in 1766, a large-scale renovation took place from 1764 to 1766. The church was redesigned in Baroque style and decorated with numerous frescoes from the life of Blessed Elisabeth Achler, who was buried in the late Romanesque tower. The frescoes in the choir and nave of the "Good Beth" were made by Eustachius Gabriel ; The founder was Martin Gerbert , prince abbot of the St. Blasien monastery . A new beth and five- wound altar was donated by the city of Waldsee and consecrated by Franz Konrad Cardinal von Rodt , Prince-Bishop of Constance . In 1774 the high altar painting was created by Kremser Schmidt .

In 1827 the high altar was renovated and from 1850 the church was comprehensively renovated by the state of Württemberg, which was obliged to pay maintenance. Through unprofessional decisions and processing, frescoes were knocked down and ceilings, walls and frescoes were covered with white plaster. In 1865 the baroque altar of Mary was replaced and in 1868 the altar of Joseph was replaced. In 1870 the five-wound altar and the prayer chapel were replaced by a new design with an altar, sarcophagus and large sculpture; the ceiling and wall paintings were made by Jakob Söflinger in the Nazarene style. In 1875 the choir paintings were restored in the old style and the high altar was redesigned. From 1887 to 1891 the windows of the monastery church St. Peter and Paul as well as the flooring were replaced. In 1905 the new organ by Eberhard Friedrich Walcker was finished. From 1906 the painted over ceiling frescos were exposed again. From 1935, the entrance was renovated with a sgraffito (motif: Petrus and Paulus) by Josef Nicklas from Reute, as well as an external renovation. After a major fire in 1957, another major renovation was carried out with the design of the pulpit, high altar and side altars. In 1977/78 the Reiser organ was installed in the old baroque case. In 2007 an altar and stucco restoration took place.

Peal

The peal was cast in the 1950s with six bells cis'-e'-fis'-a'-h'-cis "by Heinrich Kurtz in Stuttgart; the previous peal from the Grüninger bell foundry in Villingen did not survive the world wars. 2008 a general renovation of the bell tower including the bells took place.

A tower clock was installed in 1904 by the Philipp Hörz tower clock factory .
