The Monastery of San Severo (San Severo di Cotignola) was a Cistercian abbey in Emilia-Romagna , Italy . It was in the province of Ravenna between Ravenna and Sant'Apollinare in Classe .
history
The old Benedictine abbey, probably dating back to the sixth century, probably joined the Cistercian order in 1257. As a mother monastery are Monastery La Ferte , Lucedio Abbey and Abbey Chiaravalle d'Ancona called. The Cistercians stayed in San Severo for around two centuries, until the monastery was probably part of the coming and under Pope Kalixt III. around 1455 was united with the monastery of Sant'Apollinare in Classe , which had been occupied by Camaldolese since 1138 .
Plant and buildings
From the monastery, which was restored in 1754 and demolished after 1800, no major remains have survived. However, photos show excavated foundations and the remains of a wall.
