The monastery of Santa Maria delle Paludi (in Paludibus) is a former Cistercian abbey in Sardinia in Italy . It was on a small hill near Ittiri in the province of Sassari .
history
In the year 1205 the judge of Torres , Comita II., Summoned Cistercians from the primary abbey Clairvaux to drain the swampy area (sard. Pauli) to Sardinia. The newly founded abbey carried out the drainage. Several of their abbots became bishops. The monastery also established a grangie , San Nicola, in the diocese of Torres. The monastery of Santa Maria di Coros near Ittiri may also have been dependent on Santa Maria delle Paludi. In 1431 the abbey property was transferred to the diocese of Torres.
Plant and buildings
Parts of the transept, the apse and parts of the nave wall with six arcades have been preserved from the church.
