Tarrawarra Monastery

Tarrawarra Monastery (Latin Abbatia Beatae Mariae de Tarrawarra ; English Tarrawarra Abbey ) is an Australian Trappist abbey in Yarra Glen, Yarra Ranges Shire , west of Healesville , Victoria , Archdiocese of Melbourne .

history

Roscrea Monastery responded to requests from Archbishop Daniel Mannix and Cardinal Norman Thomas Gilroy in 1954 and founded Tarrawarra Monastery 50 kilometers northeast of Melbourne in the Yarra Valley, which was elevated to an abbey in 1958 and has been responsible for Kurisumala Abbey in India since 1998 .
