particularities |
The Klostersee is located west of Dargun in the Mecklenburg Lake District in the Mecklenburg part of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The lake has a size of about 25 hectares. It is about 1,350 meters long and an average of 180 meters wide.
It was probably created in the 14th century by the monks of the Dargun monastery , who dammed the Röcknitzbach by means of a dam. The Cistercians used the energy of the dammed water to operate a water mill below the lake . In addition, the reservoir secured the water supply for the nearby enclosure and served as fishing waters.
