Klosterseelte is a district in the municipality of Kirchseelte in the combined municipality of Harpstedt in the Oldenburg district .

location

Klosterseelte is located 20 km southwest of Bremen in Lower Saxony and south of the core town of Kirchseelte. The state road L 338 runs to the west and north, the Klosterbach flows to the east and the B 51 runs .

history

In 1253 the village was first mentioned as Dalselte. Klosterseelte was an independent community with a size of approx. 700 hectares until 1972 and after the influx of the displaced (150 people) on December 31, 1946, it was settled with 309 inhabitants. Before that, it was an agricultural community with 15 farms that worked actively until the 1960s.

On March 1, 1974, after a two-year interim period, Klosterseelte became a district of Kirchseelte and, after the district reform in 1974, became part of the Harpstedt municipality, which is the only integrated municipality in the Oldenburg district due to the destruction of the Grafschaft Hoya district. The last municipal council consisted of five council members, the mayor was Hermann Kastendieck.

The village school and the associations existed in community with Kirchseelte, namely:

  • the Schützenverein Kirch- und Klosterseelte, founded on May 16, 1904 and
  • the Kirch- und Klosterseelte volunteer fire brigade, founded on January 5, 1902.

From 1972 the students went to school in Harpstedt. The school building was sold and converted into a retirement home and is still operated today as a “Klosterseelter Altenpension”.

Settlements with own homes emerged from the 1960s to the early 1970s, after which there was no more major construction activity. There are no other businesses in Klosterseelte, and many of the working residents have found work in the surrounding towns and in Bremen.

In 1713 the plague came to Klosterseelte with the pig cutter and his assistants from Bremen , whereby the assistant died of the disease. The same fate befell the peasants in August of that year. Both were buried on site on the instructions of the Harpstedt office. The strict behavior of the residents did not lead to any further deaths and the residents were able to go about their work as usual after taking a waiting period.

A significant event in 2003 was the 750th anniversary in Klosterseelte. The event started with a large parade and the next day there was a festival ball with performances about the history of the village. After the Sunday service, the celebration ended with performances by various groups. An oak tree was planted as a souvenir, and it is thriving.
