The Klotenberg is a 158 meter high mountain in the Teutoburg Forest in the Steinfurt district . It forms the eastern boundary of the Bocketal. He is best known for the climbing rocks of the Ibbenbürener Bergfreunde association.

Blücherfelsen

The Blücherfelsen is a group of rocks on the Klotenberg which was named after the Prussian military governor of the Westphalia province and later Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher . As governor, he is said to have often sat on the rocks and enjoyed the view, which is now blocked by trees.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, the ridge was to the Kloten mountain with heather covered what stemmed from the strong sheep drive and massive logging. Over the years, mainly pine and beech trees grew on the steep slopes of the Klotenberg and around the Blücherfelsen .

Osning sandstone

The so-called Osning sandstone has been mined on a small scale on the Klotenberg for centuries . With the construction of the Teutoburg Forest Railway at the foot of the mountain, the quarry also received a siding.

Two coal seams of the Wealden coal are on the mountain. These coal seams were mined in times of need after the First and Second World Wars . Due to the small thickness of 10 and 20 centimeters, the attempts at coal mining were quickly discontinued.

The Zeolite project was to be built in the Klotenberg during World War II . The end of the Second World War with the capture of the Bocketal by the English, however, prevented further expansion.
