The building with the postal address Knieperwall 1 is a listed building on Knieperwall in Stralsund . It is also known as the beghine house.

The three-storey and siebenachsige brick building was built in 1888 to plans by Ernst von Costanosellari built. The client was a municipal foundation that had the building called the “Beghinenhaus” built for women in need. Despite the name there is no connection to the community of Beguines and Begarden .

The facade is simple. The windows to the Knieperwall are designed with arches , the upper floors are structured with pilaster strips . A triangular frieze runs under the eaves .

The house is located in the core area of ​​the city ​​area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the “ historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar ”. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 438.
