Knights of the Temple II ( English for "Knights of the Temple II" or "Knights Templar II" ) is an action adventure game with role-playing elements and the successor to Knights of the Temple: Infernal Crusade . In contrast to the first part, the game was no longer developed by Starbreeze Studios , but by the Slovak developer company Cauldron . Knights of the Temple II was published by Playlogic Europe-wide in 2005 for PC , Xbox and PlayStation 2 .

action

Twenty years have passed since the events in which Paul de Raque was able to prevent the Lord Bishop from uniting himself with the power of evil. Paul is now an experienced Grand Master of the Temple Order and travels from country to country to seek out and fight the forces of evil.

In Birka, an old monastery in the north, he comes across some age-old prophecies - warnings of the arrival of evil in this world. Paul sees in a vision how the terror of terror sweeps over all free countries in Europe and that he is the only one who can stop the hordes of darkness. So Paul goes in search of the three artifacts from the beginning of time. "The Eye" should help him to find the long forgotten place of the gates of hell. "The weapon" is the only means to break the protective seal of the gate and "the key" is the only way to lock it.

Paul must find these three artifacts scattered around the world to fend off the threat of the underworld.

Game mechanics

Knights of the Temple 2 shows some fundamental changes compared to its predecessor. The player no longer runs through one level after the other with a linear structure, but can freely choose which of the three artifacts he wants to search first, each of which represents a separate chapter with different regions. However, the player can switch back and forth between the areas at any time.

Furthermore, like in a role-playing game , the player now collects experience points for completed main and secondary tasks as well as for eliminated opponents, through which he can increase his character level. He receives talent points, which he can invest in various skills and attributes such as punch combinations or spells. In addition, he can now buy things such as armor, weapons and potions from various vendors in the game world for gold found and received for orders.

The camera from which the player perceives what is happening is no longer always positioned at fixed points, but often exactly behind the main character, as is common in many third-person action games .

“Hey, Knights of the Temple 2 turned out really well! I only find the controls annoying: The game doesn't offer a fixed camera position behind the hero and the constantly changing perspective sometimes denies me the view of the essentials. As a hack & slay fan, I can live with this flaw. I am particularly impressed by the combat system and the excellent medieval-oriental atmosphere. In addition, the not stunning, but pretty graphics, the good sound, the varied locations and great level bosses make me happy. "

“Knights of the Temple 2 offers a briefly fun, but in the long run extremely insignificant butchery. The greatest strength is the extensive combat system that can be expanded. The big weakness is the camera, which often throws the player through the bill. […] In addition, there are dull opponents and a meager voice output that escapes angular supporting actors. Knights of the Temple 2 is inexpensive and entertaining for a short time. "
