Knut Usener

Knut Usener (born October 7, 1959 in Schleswig ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

Usener studied Classical Philology at the Universities of Zurich and Freiburg im Breisgau from 1979 to 1985 . From 1985 to 1990 he was a research assistant in Freiburg, where he received his doctorate in 1989 with the dissertation Observations on the relationship between the Odyssey and the Iliad . From 1990 to 1996 he was a research assistant at the University of Giessen . From 1997 to 1999 he completed the teaching traineeship in Marburg and then taught at the Waldorf School there.

In 2000 Usener went to the Wuppertal Church University as a lecturer in Greek and Latin , where he has been employed ever since. In 2002 he completed his habilitation in Classical Philology at the University of Giessen. In 2008 he was appointed adjunct professor at the Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal . He gives language courses (Greek and Latin) and leads events on topics from ancient cultural studies. His main research interests include the genesis and reception of the Homeric epics Iliad and Odyssey , dealing with myths in late antiquity and the language, culture and translation of the Septuagint .
