Kobuleti ( Georgian ქობულეთი ) is a seaside resort in Georgia .
geography
Kobuleti has 16,546 inhabitants (2014) and is visited by around 100,000 tourists annually in summer. It is located on the eastern coast of the Black Sea , 28 kilometers north of Batumi . The municipality is also an administrative center in the autonomous republic of Adjara .
The climate is mild subtropical . In the summer the sun is mostly shining, there is a light sea breeze and the water is warm.
history
From the 17th to the 19th century, Kobuleti was a fief of the Tawgiridze family in the Principality of Guria , later in the Ottoman Empire . In Ottoman times the city was called Çürüksu in Turkish .
With the Berlin Treaty of 1878 Kobuleti also came to the Russian Empire , to which Georgia belonged at the time. Shortly afterwards, in 1883, it was connected to the Poti / Batumi – Baku railway .
economy
The main source of income for the city and its surroundings are tourism and agriculture . Most employers are small and medium-sized companies . There are eleven churches, two mosques, four parks and numerous hotels.
