Development history
The KL-420 was developed at Kockums in Malmö . In 1962, Kockums first built four prototypes with the designation LT-18 . The series model was initially offered as LT-2A from 1963 and renamed KL-420 in 1965. The truck model was very successful internationally, with a total of 920 vehicles in the versions LT-2A and KL-420. The KL-420 was the basis for other dump truck models from the manufacturer.
technology
The rigid-frame dump truck is a two-axle front control arm with a 4 × 2 wheel formula with a tipper body. The rear axle has twin tires. The short wheelbase enables a turning radius of 7.3 m. The engine is a Scania Vabis DS diesel engine , the drive is diesel-mechanical . The transmission also came from Scania-Vabis. The rear axle was purchased from the USA for the first series models, and later it came from ZF . The one-man cabin sits to the left of the engine compartment above the left front wheel, the tipping skip can be moved from the horizontal to the tipping position with a hydraulic cylinder , a maximum of 20 tons can be transported.
