Coal firing
The coal is a form of combustion in the coal as a fuel is used.
Types
Since coal is usually in the form of lumpy or powdery ground solid fuel , the common techniques of solid fuel firing are used for combustion :
- Grate furnaces for lumpy coal
- Coal dust firing - dust firing by means of dust burners for coal dust , after grinding in a coal mill
- Fluidized bed furnaces for lumpy coal and dust with a narrowly defined grain spectrum, especially for coal with a high ash content or ash with problematic melting behavior
After gasification or liquefaction , the resulting fuel gas / oil can also be burned with conventional gas or oil burners . However, this form of combustion is not counted among the classic coal firing.
commitment
Since coal firing usually requires extensive flue gas cleaning , coal has been largely replaced as a fuel in the private sector by heating oil and natural gas . Since then, coal firing has been used almost exclusively in the industrial sector, especially in coal-fired power plants (dust firing or fluidized bed firing). Grate furnaces are less common, especially in historical plants, e.g. B. on steam locomotives .
