The Kohler Range is a 60 km long mountain range in the Marie Byrd Land in western Antarctica . It looms between the base of the Martin Peninsula and the Smith Glacier . The mountain range consists of two icy plateaus from which several peaks and cliffs rise. The plateaus have an east-west orientation and are separated from each other by the Kohler Glacier .
The American polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd discovered the mountains during an overflight on February 24, 1940 as part of the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). Byrd named it after the American entrepreneur Walter Kohler Sr. (1875-1940), former governor of Wisconsin , who helped equip Byrd's aircraft and had previously financially supported Byrd's second Antarctic expedition (1933-1935).
