The Kokudo-chō ( Japanese 国土 庁 , dt. "Authority for (state) land", also referred to as a ministry, authority or office for state planning or development; English self-designation National Land Agency ) was an authority of the Japanese government , its head was a cabinet minister . The agency was set up in 1972 under Prime Minister Tanaka Kakuei to regulate land use, regional planning and parts of civil protection. On January 6, 2001, when the central government was restructured, it was incorporated into the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism .
