The Breiteiche colony , also known as Breiteiche , belongs to the town of Gardelegen and is located in the Altmark district of Salzwedel . Breiteiche is located in the Drömling Nature Park , a lowland area.

geography

Like the other surrounding "colonies", the Breiteiche colony consists of isolated farms. Partly agriculture is still practiced. The western part (Breiteiche II) belongs to the village of Mieste, Breiteiche I in the east and Breiteiche III in the south belong to the village of Sachau . The Ohre flows south in a roughly west-east direction . Breiteiche I is located in the Ohre-Drömling nature reserve . Larger places in the area are Mieste four kilometers north and the town of Calvörde eight kilometers southeast. South of the Ohre, north of the Mittelland Canal, lies the Mannhausen shallow water zone .

The Robert-Hoffmann-Schleuse is a weir in the ear, just before the confluence of the Allerkanal .

history

The colony emerged as part of the amelioration of the Drömling, initiated by Frederick the Great . Until the end of 2010, it belonged to the communities of Mieste and Sachau, whose local councils are responsible for the Breiteiche colony even after it was incorporated into the town of Gardelegen.
