The Komagatake cable car ( Japanese 駒 ヶ ヶ ロ ー プ ウ ェ イ , Komagatake Rōpuwēi ; English Komagatake Ropeway ) is a cable car in Japan . It is located in the area of ​​the city of Komagane in Nagano prefecture and opens up the eastern slope of the 2931 m high mountain Hōkendake in the Kiso Mountains . It is operated by the Chūō Alps Kankō Co. Ltd. ( 中央 ア ル プ ス 観 光 , Chūō Arupusu Kankō kabushiki-gaisha ), in which the City of Komagane and the Meitetsu Group are involved.

The system, which was opened in July 1967, is an aerial tramway with a suspension cable and two pull cables in both directions. The two cabins offer space for 61 people each and cover the 2334 m long route in seven and a half minutes. The train is usually in operation between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. From April to November it runs every 30 minutes, from December to March every hour. The timetable is set up so that there is always a connection to a bus line operated by the same company; this runs between the valley station and Komagane train station on the Iida line .

The Shirabidaira (valley station しらび平 ) is in Ōtagiri valley at an altitude of 1662  TP , in the municipal area of Miyada . From there, the path leads up to the top station Senjojiki ( 千畳敷 ) to 2612 m  TP , which it conquered height difference of 950 meters corresponds to the largest cableway throughout Japan. The mountain station located in the urban area of ​​Komagane is also the highest in the country. The traditional-style Hotel Senjōjiki, the highest hotel in Japan, is attached to this.

From the mountain station, which is located at the foot of the Kars of the same name , mountain hiking trails lead to the surrounding peaks. During the winter season, the highest ski lift in Japan opens up two slopes with an altitude difference of 250 meters.
