The Churches' Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) (ger .: Commission of the Churches for Migrants in Europe ) is the ecumenical organization of Anglican, Orthodox and Protestant churches, councils of churches and church services and stations in Europe. In April 2005 these countries were: Belgium, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Romania, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and the Czech Republic. In September 2016 there were 18 states.

In Germany, the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) and its Diakonisches Werk belong to the CCME.

There are further contacts to church partners in Denmark and Russia, to other ecumenical and church institutions as well as state institutions, international organizations, trade unions, employers' associations and associations of migrants , refugees and ethnic minorities.

The CCME is part of a network in which the Conference of European Churches (CEC) and the World Council of Churches (WCC) are represented. The CCME is in contact with the European Commission and the European Parliament to bring the churches' perspective on this area.

history

The CCME was founded in 1964 by the World Council of Churches (WCC) to churches in dealing with migrant workers to advise and in advising foreign workers.

In a general assembly held in Finland in 1999, the CCME decided to extend its scope, which was previously limited to migrants , to include the whole area of ​​migration, integration, displacement, asylum, racism and xenophobia.

In the first half of 2015, the CCME was already working on a “SafePassage - Safe Paths” project to “respond to the ongoing migration and refugee crisis in the Mediterranean ”, including a. with on-site border monitoring and political lobbying “for a humane European asylum and migration policy”.

The 20th General Assembly of the CCME was held in Prague in June 2017.
