Municipal damage compensation

A municipal loss compensation is an unincorporated union of municipalities and municipal associations in a self-help organization . Its purpose is to compensate for damage suffered by its members due to legal liability , from keeping vehicles and from municipal accident care . Municipal damage compensation is a system of self- insurance because insurable risks are not insured by commercial insurance companies . The self-help organizations are financed through levies; they are exempt from insurance supervision ( Section 3 (1) No. 4 of the Insurance Supervision Act ). Most of the self-help organizations are organized in the Federal Working Group of German Municipal Insurers (BADK).

Municipal damage compensation for the states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The organization was founded on October 11, 1990 in Berlin by representatives of 57 regional authorities (municipalities and districts). As of December 31, 2007 the organization had over 6,000 members (855 in Brandenburg , 1,177 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , 1,193 in Saxony , 1,489 in Saxony-Anhalt , 1,466 in Thuringia and 19 others). Members can become: municipalities , districts , offices (BB, MV), administrative communities ( SN , ST , TH ), administrative associations (SN) and those companies that are operated to fulfill public tasks and in which municipalities or districts hold at least 50% are.
