The Kon-Tiki-Museum ( Norwegian Kon-Tiki Museet ) is a museum in Oslo, Norway . It is located on the Bygdøy peninsula and exhibits objects from Thor Heyerdahl's expeditions and research.

On display are the original Kon-Tiki raft , maps and equipment from the expedition, the restored Ra II , exhibits on marine research, models of the three types of caves on Easter Island. It also houses a library with more than 8,000 books. Housed in a temporary building since 1949, the construction of a museum complex designed by the architects FS Platou and Otto Torgersen began in 1950 and opened in 1957. In 1978 an extension opened.

In cooperation with the Norwegian National Library , the museum manages the Bjarne Kroepeliens library, which contains around 4,500 publications, and the Heyerdahl archive. In addition to diaries, the latter includes original manuscripts, private letters, expedition plans, articles and newspaper clippings as well as unique photo and film material. The archive was declared World Document Heritage in 2011 .

In 2012 the museum presented a special exhibition on the production of the new Kon-Tiki feature film .

Near the Kon-Tiki Museum are the Frammuseum , the Norsk Folkemuseum , the Viking Ship Museum ( Vikingskipshuset ) and the Norwegian Maritime Museum ( Norsk Maritimt Museum ) .
