The Kondor team was a German cycling team .

history

The team was founded by entrepreneur Konrad Kotter from Schechingen in Württemberg and was largely financed. His company produced tubes, frames for racing bikes and complete bikes . In the first few years, the frames were imported from Italy and processed and sold in Germany, later racing bikes were sold under the Kondor name. Kotter also acted as the team's manager. Kondor existed in 1979 and 1980. In the first year the team had a budget of 200,000 DM . There was also sponsorship of various companies such as Campagnolo , De Alessandro, Cinelli and Everest.

From 1981 to 1983, individual drivers like Erwin Gaede were supported by sponsorship without any further team structure.

The first team in 1979 consisted of seven German professionals and one Dutchman . Other drivers were added later, and there were also so-called guest drivers who were only hired for certain races. Since the team was only formed when the season was already running, the premiere for the new team took place on May 1, 1979 at the race around the Henningerturm . Shortly afterwards, she started the Tour de Suisse and did her first tour there. In 1980 the budget was increased. In spring, the team competed in Milan-San Remo and the Amstel Gold Race . After the desired success failed to materialize, Kotter dissolved the team at the end of 1980 and founded the Kotter's Racing Team as its successor.
