The Congress Hall ( pln. Sala Kongresowa ) is an event location in the Polish capital Warsaw in the building complex of the Palace of Culture .

history

Enter the Rolling Stones

On April 13, 1967, the Rolling Stones , who were on their European tour, performed there. This was the first appearance of a world-famous rock band behind the Iron Curtain . The two appearances differed from the previous concerts of the Rolling Stones: 3000 of the 5000 tickets were given free of charge to party officials and their families and so the Rolling Stones, instead of in front of screaming teenagers, mostly played in front of older men and families wearing ties. In front of the palace, there were violent arguments between the police and young people who wanted to go to the concert.

renovation

Since 2014, the headlines have been the renovation of the congress hall, where two companies have already gone bankrupt and about which it is mocked that you can build a palace in three years, but it would take five years or more to renovate a single room. Originally, the renovation was supposed to take two years and cost 45 million zlotys .
