Sonsfeldsche Bruch, Hagener Meer and Duene is a 48 hectare nature reserve in the area of the city of Rees in the district of Haldern in the Kleve district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The nature reserve Sonsfeldsches Bruch, Hagener Meer und Düne is east of Rees on the border with the Wesel district . To the north is Sonsfeld Castle and Bellinghoven Castle to the south . The nature reserve borders on the nature reserve Haffensche Landwehr-Sonsfeldsche Weiden and was placed under protection in 1992 and its protection purpose is the preservation of the old Rhine water including the adjacent shore area and a remnant of inland dunes in the north of the area.
Significant types of biotope are the Hagen Sea itself, as well as quarry forest and the remnants of the dunes mentioned. The oxbow lake is characterized by well-developed, large-scale floating leaf communities and diverse reed vegetation . The river ragwort (Senecio sarracenicus), the white water lily (Nuphar alba) and the frog bite (Hydrocharis morsus-ranae), all of which are endangered in North Rhine-Westphalia, grow here as special species .
On the dunes rest some drought-tolerant species have still held at risk in North Rhine-Westphalia, as the Spring Haferschmiele (Aira praecox), the sand sedge (Carex anrenaria), the Spring Spark (Spergula morisonii) or the farmer mustard (Teesdalia nudicaulis). Since the dune vegetation and sandy fauna, which are worthy of protection, are dependent on full sun, regular maintenance measures are necessary, during which the shading woody plants are removed.
The nature reserve Sonsfeldsches Bruch, Hagener Merr and Düne is currently (2019) supervised by Johanna Dohle from the Naturschutzzentrum Kleve.
