geography
The Bellinghover Meer is located on the lower right-hand side of the Lower Rhine at the edge of the lower Rhine terrace. It is fed by the Lange Renne and flows into the Hagener Meer, which flows into the Rhine via the Haffensche Landwehr .
history
The Bellinghover Meer and the Haagener Meer are remnants of the Sonsfeld loop, a meander of the Rhine. It originated in the late Mesolithic or early Neolithic . From the 10th to the 13th century, the Rhine left its old bed and flowed over the Visseler Schlinge from the Bronze Age and the Lange Renne into the Bellinghover Sea. The drainage via the Haffensche Landwehr has been proven by a document from Deichschau Rees since 1580.
Bellinghover Meer nature reserve
The Bellinghover Meer is a legally protected biotope and is under nature protection . It belongs to the international wetland Lower Lower Rhine according to the Ramsar Convention and is registered as an FFH area.
fauna
In addition to carp , tench , pike and perch , the Bellinghover Sea is home to numerous white fish species. They form the food source for great crested grebes, comorans, gray herons and kingfisher. Crayfish and many different types of river mussels are evidence of the high quality of the water.
flora
The Bellinghover Meer has a narrow reed border. There are floating leaf zones in the northern area and in the southern shallow water area.
