The convention center Awaza ( English : Awaza Convention Center , Turkmen : Kongresler merkezi ) was in 2015 Turkmen tourism zone Awaza opened and is the largest convention center in Central Asia .

location

The Awaza Congress Center is located in the Awaza tourist zone on the Caspian Sea . It is part of an ambitious infrastructure project by the Turkmen government, which wants to create a small Dubai with investments in the billions . In the vicinity of the congress center there are numerous hotels, some of which are luxurious, which can accommodate the participants of events in the congress center.

Building history

The Turkish construction company Polimeks , which is involved in the implementation of many construction projects in Turkmenistan, was commissioned with the construction of the congress center . The construction work began in November 2012 and was scheduled to be completed within 36 months. In fact, the congress center was able to open in September 2015 after a construction period of 34 months. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow was also present at the opening ceremony on September 8, 2015 .

architecture

The building resembles a stylized tent that is designed in white on the sides and stained glass windows on the facade . On the side there are four wave-shaped structures, also in white, that run along the outer wall of the building. On the outer wall, as well as on each of the four attached structures, there is one of the so-called guls, traditional Turkmen carpet patterns , which can also be found in the flag of Turkmenistan . The design language, reminiscent of waves, is inspired by the Caspian Sea. Above the main entrance of the building is a large portrait of President Berdimuhamedov, ubiquitous in Turkmenistan. The congress center has a total of nine floors and a viewing platform with a view of Awaza and the Caspian Sea.

The immediate vicinity of the congress center is designed with numerous fountains, water areas, trees and green areas.

Interior

The Awaza convention center has several halls and conference rooms of various sizes and for various occasions. The foyer of the building is designed with large aquariums in the floor and on the side walls. The two large conference halls offer space for 2,000 and 476 participants, respectively. In addition to events and conferences, the large conference hall is also used for concerts. There are also two banquet halls with space for 450 and 256 guests, a press room, a conference room for visits by heads of state or other high-ranking guests, a hall for signing contracts and protocols, and several small conference rooms with a capacity of 30 to 100 people. The Turkmen President has his own office in the building.

Events

As a multifunctional facility, the Awaza convention center is intended to provide a stage for a wide range of events. For example, a forum was already held in the congress center on the occasion of the completion of the new port of Türkmenbaşy , which dealt with trading opportunities along the Silk Road . In August 2019, the official part of the first Caspian Economic Forum took place in the Congress Center, at which the five countries bordering the Caspian Sea discussed increased economic cooperation. Numerous high-ranking politicians and diplomats from neighboring countries and other countries around the world came to the forum.
