Konrad Cosack was the son of the Protestant theologian Karl Johann Cosack . He studied law in Berlin, Munich and Halle, where he also received his doctorate in 1877. In 1882 he completed his habilitation in Berlin for German law and civil procedure law. In Berlin he taught first as a private lecturer and from 1885 as an associate professor. In 1889 he was appointed full professor of German private law at the University of Giessen. In 1893 he went to Freiburg as a full professor of German law, church law and legal encyclopedia, but in 1896 he moved to the University of Bonn (where he acquired and lived in the Villa Coblenzerstraße 89b ). There he left the teaching staff at his own request in 1915 and then worked at the Bonn merchant court . In 1918 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Munich.

Scientifically, Cosack was primarily known for his textbook on commercial law, which was first published in 1888, which was initially criticized for its novel systematics and methods, but then prevailed. By 1923 it had been published ten times.

Cosack's fortune is given in the 1913 Yearbook of Millionaires at one to two million marks .
