Conrad III. (Carinthia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Conrad III. von Kärnten ( Kuno ) († 1061 ) was nominally Duke of Carinthia and Margrave of Verona from 1056/57 to 1061 .

He came from the house of the Hezelinids, a sideline of the Ezzone . His father was Count Hezel von Zülpich, his mother was a sister of Emperor Konrad II (?), And he was a brother of Count Palatine Heinrich I of Lorraine, "the madman".

Although he was in 1055 at the uprising of Konrad I of Bavaria and Welf III. against Emperor Heinrich III. had participated, he was resumed with grace and in 1056 was entrusted with the Duchy of Carinthia by the Empress Mother Agnes .

But he never succeeded in taking over the rule of Carinthia because the Eppensteiner settled in under Markwart IV were too powerful.

It is not even certain that Konrad ever set foot on Carinthian soil. He died in 1061.
