Konrad Lechner (Abbot)

Konrad Lechner (born January 26, 1901 in Thaur ; † March 1, 1994 ) was the 55th provost and 14th Lateranian abbot of the Augustinian Canons Monastery of Neustift in South Tyrol 1965–1969.

Life

Konrad Lechner was born as Albuin Lechner as the first son of Josef and Theresa Lechner. Felderer born on January 26th, 1901 in Thaur. In 1918 the parents bought the Gasthof Schützenwirt (formerly Lochwirt house no. 23) at Dörferstrasse 11. Other siblings: Franz Lechner (1919 - 1944 presumed), Wilhelm Lechner (1909 - 1998). He spent his youth in Thaur and passed the Matura in the Franziskanergymnasium in Solbad Hall (today Hall in Tirol). Since then he has also been with the KöstV student association Sternkorona. In 1918 Albuin Lechner joined the Augustinian Canons' Monastery in Neustift / Brixen, where he decided on the name "Konrad". In 1924 he was ordained a priest in Brixen. After a few years as a cooperator in Assling (East Tyrol), he was a teacher at the collegiate school, pastor in Neustift and for 23 years as a monastery administrator. In 1965 he was elected provost and appointed abbot. In 1969 he handed over his office to Chrysostomus Giner.

Abbot Konrad was an enthusiastic "Krippeler". His vision throughout his life was that every family should have a crib. He researched and developed a wide variety of methods for creating nativity figurines. He designed models for casting heads as well as hands and feet. As a qualified biologist, he significantly developed the shelf life of plants in the field of crib construction. Much of his "secrets" were written down and published as a booklet.

Abbot Konrad was also a great admirer of "Saint Romedius ". He researched the history of the village saint of Thaur and wrote about it.

In old age he lost his eyesight and his health deteriorated until he finally died on March 1, 1994 in Neustift Abbey. Many delegations from Thaur and Vahrn gave him his last escort.
