Konrad room

Konrad Raum (born August 20, 1917 in Bayreuth ; † June 12, 2008 in Kirchheim unter Teck ) was a German landscape painter , draftsman and graphic artist . In his drawings elements of impressionism , realism and expressionism are combined .

Life

Raum studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . His teachers included Peter Jakob Schober (1897–1983) and Hermann Mayrhofer -Passau (1901–1976). Konrad Raum was the Hitler Youth leader during the National Socialist era . From 1938 he served in the Wehrmacht .

Artistic creation

Through the mediation of his Stuttgart teachers, Raum came into contact with impressionism and expressive realism. He combined these elements in a unique mixture of impressive spontaneity, realistic rendering of the landscape and expressive projection of mental states onto nature. His main field of work was landscape and city drawings as well as lithographs . The volume of drawings , published on the occasion of the artist's 75th birthday, says about his work :

“Konrad Raum gives it [the landscape] in bold, sweeping sweeps, in modulating outlines, in softly echoing or hard and isolated characters, in wild hatching and ecstatically presented balls of lines unmistakably and uniquely shape and weight. By focusing on movements, rhythms and spaces, by reflecting on phenomena, even meditating, grasping them in his abbreviation and in this way capturing their uniqueness or actually making them visible, he translates and interprets what has been seen and experienced , something that is deeply known, which in its meaning equals that of the abstract position. The publication documents the struggle for the landscape over a period of almost fifty years. The exemplary, representative selection of images stands for a large, diverse, multi-faceted, constantly growing oeuvre despite all the limited motifs. Developments take place in small, almost imperceptible changes. The path from the artistically extravagant narrative to the mysterious, sometimes cryptic handwriting in abbreviations and symbols spans almost a lifetime. "
