Hermann Mayrhofer

Hermann Mayrhofer-Passau (born April 10, 1901 in Passau ; † January 12, 1976 there ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Passau, he studied at the State School for Applied Arts in Munich and at the Britsch-Kornmann private art school in Starnberg . After a few years as a freelance artist in Düsseldorf and Munich , he was appointed professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart in 1939 to head the etching class and lithographic workshop (from 1941 also head of the free graphics). He was one of the recognized artists of the Nazi state: From 1937 to 1944 he was regularly represented in the annual Great German Art Exhibition in the Munich House of German Art and also figured in the Vienna exhibition Young Art in the German Empire in 1943 . After the end of the war - he was no longer taken into account when the Stuttgart Academy was reconstituted in 1946 - he moved back to Passau and documented his hometown with numerous architectural graphics. Countless drawings , etchings and lithographs were created during this time . Among other things, he was a member of the Innviertel Artists Guild .
