Konrad Schauenstein

Konrad Schauenstein (born November 4, 1944 in Graz , † May 22, 2007 ibid) was an Austrian physician, doctor, immunopathologist, university professor and musician.

Life

Konrad Schauenstein was the son of Erwin Schauenstein . He grew up in Graz, where he studied medicine and received his doctorate in 1971. At the same time he studied music (majoring in violin) at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz . In 1974 he became a contract assistant at the University Institute for General and Experimental Pathology in Vienna. In 1976 he received his license to practice medicine, later recognized as a specialist in immunology (1994) and as a specialist in pathophysiology (1998).

He completed his habilitation at the medical faculty of the University of Innsbruck in 1979 in the subject of general and experimental pathology / immunopathology. After a research stay in Israel , he returned to Innsbruck and headed a working group for cellular immunology at the Institute for General and Experimental Pathology. In 1986 he was appointed professor at the University of Graz . He stayed there until his death in 2007.

His main research interests were in the areas of immune neuroendocrinology, autoimmunity, tumor immunology and the aging of the immune system. His scientific work comprises 318 publications.

Schauenstein was married and had four children.
