Konrad Schmedeshagen

Konrad Schmedeshagen (born September 18, 1897 in Gelsenkirchen , † May 30, 1969 in Bad Driburg ) was a German football functional . Schmedeshagen was an employee of Ruhrstahl AG until the end of the Second World War . His footballing home was the SV Alemannia Gelsenkirchen, which as BSG Gelsenguß Gelsenkirchen once won the runner-up in the Gauliga Westfalen behind FC Schalke 04 and later merged with Union Gelsenkirchen to form Eintracht Gelsenkirchen . He was also a player at FC Schalke 04.

Career

In 1922 he was one of the founders of SV Westfalia Schalke 22. In the 1930s he was the club's chairman. After the Second World War, Schmedeshagen worked towards the establishment of a top West German league and was technical director of the new Oberliga West in 1946/47 , as whose "father" he is considered. From August 12, 1950 until his death, he was the successor to Peco Bauwens, chairman of the WFV and a functionary in the DFB .

During his tenure, the WFV sports school in Duisburg-Wedau was expanded. It was opened in June 1955. Due to the extension buildings, the entire administration was located here, and the sports school could now also be used for conferences.

Konrad Schmedeshagen died on May 30, 1969 as a result of a heart attack during a spa stay in Bad Driburg.
