Konrad Wothe (* 1952 in Munich ) is a German biologist, animal filmmaker and animal photographer .

Life

Wothe, who was given his first camera at the age of eight and has since experimented with photography, first learned the profession of a dental technician after graduating from high school at the Oskar-von-Miller-Gymnasium in Munich . As a high school student, he won first prize in physics in the 1972 Youth Research competition for a 360-degree panorama camera he had designed himself . His trainer, the owner of the dental technology laboratory, recognized the talent of his protégé and passed him on to an animal filmmaker friend: Heinz Sielmann . After completing his apprenticeship, Wothe enthusiastically worked in Sielmann's film team and decided, like Sielmann, to become a nature photographer and wildlife filmmaker. He enrolled at the LMU Munich and studied biology, majoring in zoology and behavioral research , parallel to his film work in Sielmann's team . His thesis in 1979 dealt with the song of the tree pipit .

Since then he has worked as a freelance animal filmmaker, mainly for ZDF . He is a member of the Society of German Animal Photographers and the Ornithological Society . Wothe lives in Penzberg in Upper Bavaria .
