Konrad von Ammenhausen

Konrad von Ammenhausen was a Benedictine monk and later a folk priest in Stein am Rhein , who lived in the first half of the 14th century .

He came from the Stein am Rhein area. His exact life dates are unknown. It is documented between 1324 and 1325.

He became known through his Schachzabelbuch , completed in 1337 , a German-language rhyming version of the work of Jacobus de Cessolis , Liber de moribus hominum et officiis nobilum ac popularium super ludo scacchorum . Konrad himself writes that at the time of writing his book he was not at all old (still young).

Its adaptation achieved great popularity and is preserved in over 20 manuscripts and numerous incunabula . It was reprinted over and over again until the 16th century .
