The Konradhaus is a cultural monument in Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein , which was built in 1874 as a casino and officers' dormitory. Afterwards it was used by the Capuchin monastery in Koblenz and as a theater .
history
The Konradhaus was built in 1874 as a casino and officers' residence for the officers of the Traindepos. The building was named after Konrad von Parzham from the Capuchins of the neighboring Capuchin Monastery , who bought it in 1930 and set up a home for apprentices here for their youth welfare organization Seraphisches Liebeswerk . The children's aid organization was founded by the Capuchins in Ehrenbreitstein in 1889 and operated the children's home built in Arenberg in 1909 . For this purpose, a connecting wing was built between the Konradhaus and the Capuchin monastery, with a figure of Konrad von Parzham above the portal. The youth home was closed in 1991 and then renovated from 1995 to 1996. Then in 1996 the theater moved into a side wing of the main building.
theatre
The Konradhaus Theater was founded in 1996 by Ingrid Sehorsch, who has been in charge of the house since then, and Michael John Hamlett. It saw itself as a professional three-part house on a small scale. The auditorium offered space for up to 99 spectators. Up to September 2006, 84 new productions and 15 world premieres had been shown. In addition to own productions, guest performances were occasionally performed, and other events took place, for example “Philosophy meets literature” or “The Koblenz late night show with Titti and Gerd”. In 2014 the theater was closed. The theater hall can still be rented as a performance venue without its own theater. The ballet school "First Position" and a Pilates studio are also located in the rooms of the Konradhaus .
construction
The Konradhaus is a classicist cubic building with 6: 3 axes . The three-storey building stands on a base , with the ground floor also acting as a base due to the rustication , the arched windows and the final cornice (the actual, now smoothly plastered base, was originally also rusticated). Above that are the two upper floors, which were formerly used as officers' apartments, with Ritz ashlar. The hipped roof has some new dormers . The Konradhaus and the neighboring Capuchin Monastery shape the image of the Kapuzinerplatz.
Monument protection
The Konradhaus is a protected cultural monument according to the Monument Protection Act (DSchG) and entered in the list of monuments of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . It is located in Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein at Kapuzinerplatz 135 .
The Konradhaus has been part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002 .
