Konstantin Michailowitsch Chanin ( Russian Константин Михайлович Ханин , English transcription Konstantin Khanin ) is a Russian mathematician and physicist.

Chanin received his doctorate at the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics in Moscow and did research there until 1994. He then taught at Princeton University , was at the Isaac Newton Institute in Cambridge and at Heriot-Watt University , before moving to the University of Toronto Mississauga in 2005 went, where he became a professor and headed the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science from 2008 to 2013.

Chanin deals with probability theory, dynamic systems and ergodic theory , theory of turbulence ( Burgers equation ) and mathematical physics (especially statistical mechanics).

Chanin was invited speaker at the European Congress of Mathematicians in Barcelona 2000 (with R. Itturiaga: Burgers turbulence and dynamical systems). For 2018 he is invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Rio de Janeiro .
