Konstantin Schäfer

Konstantin Schäfer (born December 12, 1899 in Karlsruhe , † April 26, 1978 in Neuenburg am Rhein ) was a German educator and local researcher .

Life

Schäfer embarked on a teaching career and came to Neuenburg am Rhein after the Second World War , where he later became vice rector. From 1955 to 1968 Schäfer was editor of the magazine of the Hebelbund Müllheim , “Die Margrafschaft” and after this publication was discontinued, he and Fritz Schülin became co-editor of the magazine of the Markgräflerland history association , “Das Markgräflerland”. Schäfer published a series of “profound and profound historical and cultural-historical articles” in both magazines and in “Badische Heimat”. 1963 appeared under the title Neuchâtel. The history of an abandoned city his extensive main work, which was published by the city of Neuchâtel. The late medieval chronicler Matthias von Neuchâtel was one of his subjects .

For 15 years he worked as the head of the people's education center in Neuchâtel.

Honors

On November 16, 1969, he became an honorary citizen of the city of Neuenburg am Rhein. There is also a central square named after him. In 1970 he became an honorary member of the Müllheim Lever Association. In September 1977 he received the Upper Rhine Culture Prize from the Basel Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Foundation .
