The counter cliffs are a series of icy and up to 360 m high cliffs on the Ruppert coast of the West Antarctic Marie-Byrd-Land . They tower over the eastern flank of Frostman Glacier in its estuary in Hull Bay .
The United States Geological Survey carried out a mapping between 1959 and 1965 using its own survey data and aerial photographs of the United States Navy . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the cliffs in 1975 after Richard Wesley Konter (1882–1979), a crew member of the City of New York on the American Byrd Antarctic Expedition (1928–1930).
