Since it was founded in the autumn of 1977, the choir has made guest appearances in almost all major European concert halls and has been invited to tour the United States , Israel , North and South Korea , Japan and Indonesia . Radio, television and CD recordings are added to the busy concert activity. The pursuit of lively music communication is the most important working and style principle of the choir. In the intensive work phases of a production, the joint development of the expressive content of the music is always in the foreground. In addition, the choir develops completely new forms of representation for the scenic implementation of concert works.

The staged performances of Orff's Carmina Burana , Handel's Belshazzar and Honegger's King David, among others, caused a sensation . The Darmstadt Concert Choir offers professionally trained singers from all parts of Germany a field of activity that goes beyond the usual paths of classical music production.

The choir works regularly with the Darmstädter Hofkapelle and the Beethoven Academy Orchestra Krakow . There has also been collaboration with well-known conductors and orchestras such as the Saarbrücken and Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestras, the Rhineland-Palatinate State Philharmonic, the Moscow Bolshoi Orchestra, the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra and the Young German Philharmonic under conductors such as Gary Bertini and Dennis Russell Davies , Gianluigi Gelmetti , Paolo Carignani , Alexander Lazarev, Leif Segerstam and Marcello Viotti .

In general, the concert choir's repertoire ranges from sacred and secular music of the Middle Ages to many premieres and world premieres of contemporary works (by Jean Françaix , Wolfgang Rihm and Mauricio Kagel, among others ). It encompasses the entire range of a cappella literature as well as popular music and opera and oratorios . The pursuit of lively music communication is the primary working and style principle of the Darmstadt Concert Choir. In the intensive work phases of a production, the joint development of the expressive content of the music is always in the foreground. In addition to the standard works of choral literature, the choir particularly wants to bring rarely performed and unusual music to the fore.

The most important awards were the first prizes in the international choir competition " Let the Peoples Sing ", which is held by all radio stations in the world, in 1988 in the "Large Choirs" category, in 1990 in the "Chamber Choirs" category, plus the "Silver Rose Bowl" “Came as the best choir of the entire competition.
