Konzerthaus Weinviertel - Ziersdorf Lower Austria

The Weinviertel concert hall is an Art Nouveau concert hall in Ziersdorf, Lower Austria . The faithfully restored hall is a listed building.

history

In 1910 the ballroom, originally called the “Art Nouveau Hall”, was put into operation by the innkeeper Ernest Fröhlich. This hall was built by the Ziersdorf master mason Ludwig Streicher according to plans by the Viennese city architect Heinrich Blahosch. In the interwar period, the hall was used as an event center for balls, colorful evenings and theater performances and was called the “most beautiful ballroom between Vienna and Prague”. Many clubs also had their home here. The railway connection with Vienna was given by the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Bahn .

After 1945 the building was converted into a wine and crate warehouse. The Gasthaus Fröhlich remained in operation until 1971 and was demolished in 2005.

The area was purchased in 2001 by the municipality of Ziersdorf and three years later it was decided to revitalize the Weinviertel concert hall. The 2005 Village and Urban Renewal Prize was awarded to the project for its successful revitalization, including the modern extension. The architect's office Gerhard Lindner from Baden was responsible for the revitalization and the new buildings to be built, and the company Watzinger from Ziersdorf was responsible for the execution.

The opening took place within the framework of the Lower Austrian Provincial Exhibition 2005 "Zeitreise Heldenberg" on June 11, 2005.

The hall was renamed Ludwig Streicher-Saal in honor of the double bass soloist. The musician Ludwig Streicher was the grandson of the builder of the same name who built the Art Nouveau hall.

Oddities

The innkeeper Ernest Fröhlich had the idea for the ballroom after accidentally stealing a large amount of bricks. A debtor brick kiln owner had paid off his debts with bricks from his own production.

use

The Weinviertel concert hall with its “Ludwig Streicher Art Nouveau Hall” is used in a variety of ways. The program consists of classical music, cabaret, theater performances, readings, light music and a challenging program for children and young people. In the newly built foyer with the adjoining gallery space, the “ARTS Gallery in the Konzerthaus”, exhibitions of predominantly contemporary art take place. In the first ten years, over 50,000 guests attended the evening events at the Weinviertel concert hall.
