Kooyong

Kooyong is a district of the Australian metropolis Melbourne . It belongs to the administrative area of Stonnington City and is located about 6 km southeast of the city center.

The name is taken from the name of the Aboriginal language for the Kooyongkoot stream (now Gardiners Creek ) and probably means the resting place / abode of wild birds.

Until 1987, the Australian Open was held at the local Kooyong Stadium . The Kooyong Classic preparatory tournament has been held there since 1988 .
