The head of the figure of an Egyptian princess in the Egyptian Museum Berlin with the inventory number 21223 is an ancient Egyptian bust from the Amarna period . A princess who is not known by name is shown.
The bust of the princess from the early phase of the Amarna period was found in 1920 during an excavation by the German Orient Society in house P 47.1 , Thutmose's sculptor's workshop , in Tell el Amarna , and was found by James Simon for the Egyptian Museum in Berlin acquired. It is dated around 1350 BC. Dated. The head is 21 cm high and made of silicified sandstone . What is striking about the portrait is the precocious expression that the artist gives the portrait without neglecting the portrait's childlike features. Some anatomically precisely represented details such as the cervical and neck vertebrae and the bone structure of the back of the head are also masterly.
The portrait belongs to a new form of representation in which the daughters of the ruling couple are shown in the style of portraits of Pharaoh Akhenaten regardless of their actual age. The hallmarks of these depictions, which were to shape portrait art in the near future, are the elongated face with an oversized chin, a long, arched neck and a bulging skull. Thus an ideal image was created. It can be assumed that this is the representation of one of the daughters of Akhenaten and Nefertiti . The royal couple had six daughters together. However, it is not possible to determine which one is involved due to the lack of inscriptions. The head belonged to a so-called composite statue. The head should be attached to this with the help of a fastening pin, of which remains have been preserved. The head is finished, only the inlays for the eyes and eyebrows are missing.
