Kopff is an impact crater on the extreme western edge of the front of the moon , on the eastern edge of the Mare Orientale , west of the Lacus Veris . The crater rim is only slightly eroded, the largely flat interior shows fracture structures.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1970 after the German astronomer August Kopff .
