Kopflache on the Friesenheimer Altrhein is a nature reserve in Mannheim .

It has a size of 21 hectares and is located in the northwest of Mannheim. It runs on the eastern bank of the Rhine and northeast of the Old Rhine of the Mannheim harbor and belongs to the northern part of the Upper Rhine Lowland . The head area is part of a network of biotopes, directly to the north is the Ballauf-Wilhelmswörth nature reserve . The nature reserve is divided into two areas. The lower wetland with alluvial forest , reed beds and sedge is regularly flooded. It provides habitat for the reed warbler , several species of dragonflies and waders . The north-eastern area is a former alluvial area with ruderal vegetation , which butterflies and birds use as a food biotope. The nature reserve was designated in 1988 to secure and maintain the near-natural landscape in the immediate vicinity of a heavily used cultural landscape.
