The Kopperhörner Mühle is a Dutch windmill on Mühlenweg in the Heppens district of the city of Wilhelmshaven , about one kilometer east of Wilhelmshaven Town Hall .
history
When it was built, the mill was outside the city, because Bismarckstrasse was the northern boundary of the city. A previous building dates from 1547, which was probably destroyed in a storm in 1698. The current gallery Dutch with compass rose was built in 1839 as a pellet and grinder mill.
In 1908 the mill received a suction gas motor as a secondary drive in order to be more independent from the wind. The demolition of the mill was prevented after 1922 by the predecessor town of Wilhelmshaven, Rüstringen , which classified the structure as worthy of preservation and leased the building. After the Second World War, the mill was temporarily used as a warehouse. In the 1980s it was extensively restored, including the installation of a new grinder and milling machines. In 1986 the mill was leased to the local history association “Die Boje”, which made it accessible to the public and organized grinding demonstrations.
On September 15, 1994, a wing of the mill broke during a storm. The remaining rod trees and chest pieces were affected and the mill had to be shut down for safety reasons. The mill stood still for the next six years. Only after the founding of the "Kopperhörner Mühlenverein eV" in 1999 could the damage to the mill be repaired. From 2000 the mill was renovated with the complete renewal of the cap and wing, which was successfully completed in 2002. The "Kopperhörner Mühlenvereins eV" has been taking care of them and running them since then. "Freiwillige Müller" and other active members of the association have been available for tours of the mill since then. When the wind is favorable, the brake can be released so that the blades turn. However, grinding demonstrations are no longer possible.
The Kopperhörner Mühle is a station on the Frisian Mühlenstrasse .
