The Korean Academy of Film Arts ( KAFA for short , Korean 한국 영화 아카데미 , Korean Film Academy ') is a film school in Busan , South Korea . It was founded in 1984 by the Korean Film Council .

KAFA was located in Seoul until 2018, but was relocated to the southern port city of Busan in 2018 . KAFA offers the subjects of film directing, animation, camera work and film production. It is highly regarded as a training center in the film industry. The programs run for two years and focus on industry practice to learn directly from experienced filmmakers. The students take part in 21 projects in various disciplines such as direction and camera work as well as editing and sound recordings with digital cameras, 16 mm and 35 mm. Ultimately, the students prove themselves in the annual Korean Academy of Film Arts Festival.

The most well-known graduates include Bong Joon-ho , Choi Dong-hun , Im Sang-soo , Kim Ui-seok (* 1957), Jang Joon-hwan and Hur Jin-ho . While most graduation films are short films , KAFA has been promoting the production of feature films since 2006 , which are finally released at various film festivals and have won several awards in the past. Sun won Kim Ui-seok's (* 1983) thesis film After My Death on the International Film Festival in Busan in 2017 the New Currents Award and Han Ka-ram Our Body celebrated its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2018 .
