Koryak is a language spoken by 3,000 Koryaks, mainly in the former Koryak Autonomous Okrug . The language is a close relative of Chukchi . It has a great wealth of dialects, which in some cases are not mutually understandable.

alphabet

A Latin alphabet was introduced in the 1930s . In 1937 it was replaced by a Cyrillic alphabet without special characters. In the 1950s, four characters were added to the alphabet with an apostrophe: в ', г', к ', н'. A few years later the К with an apostrophe and the Н with an apostrophe were replaced by special characters with hooks. So today's alphabet consists of 37 letters and looks like this:
