alphabet
A Latin alphabet was introduced in the 1930s . In 1937 it was replaced by a Cyrillic alphabet without special characters. In the 1950s, four characters were added to the alphabet with an apostrophe: в ', г', к ', н'. A few years later the К with an apostrophe and the Н with an apostrophe were replaced by special characters with hooks. So today's alphabet consists of 37 letters and looks like this:
| А а | Б б | В в | В 'в' | Г г | Г 'г' | Д д | Е е |
| Ё ё | Ж ж | З з | И и | Й й | К к | Ӄ ӄ | Л л |
| М м | Н н | Ӈ ӈ | О о | П п | Р р | С с | Т т |
| У у | Ф ф | Х х | Ц ц | Ч ч | Ш ш | Щ щ | Ъ ъ |
| Ы ы | Ь ь | Э э | Ю ю | Я я |
