Cornflower (heraldry)

The cornflower is a common figure in heraldry and can be in the shield with other figures . The coats of arms with this figure are not common. Two forms are taken in the coat of arms.

One form is the strict representation of the flower from above. Six to nine or more blue petals is the preferred heraldic figure . Other colors are possible, but if different, the metals gold and silver are preferred. If there are several flowers in the coat of arms or the head of the shield , the general rules of 2: 1 or 1: 2 in the shield or in bars in the head apply. The beams and stakes are also assigned in the usual heraldic manner.

Another representation is the natural and stylized form of flower with style and leaves.

The cornflower has been the national flower of Estonia since 1968 .
