Ekaterini Koumarianou

Ekaterini Koumarianou ( Greek Αικατερίνη Κουμαριανού also transcribed Aikaterini Koumarianou , * 1919 in Athens ; † May 14, 2012 ) was a Greek historian .

Life

Koumarianou came from Constantinople on his father's side and from Chios on his mother's side . She attended the Maraslio High School in Athens and then studied philology at the University of Athens . She obtained her diploma in 1942, during the German occupation. In 1949 she worked in the coordination service of the European Reconstruction Program for Greece , and in 1961 in the Hellenic National Research Center . From 1964 to 1968 she taught in the US College Year program in Athens . During the military dictatorship , from 1969 to 1974, she studied the history of books at the École Pratique des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) with François Furet and Robert Mandrou , representatives of the second generation of the Annales . When the junta fell, she worked in Washington in the press service of the Greek embassy (1974–1975). From 1975 to 1978 she was a cultural advisor in the general secretariat of the press. From 1978 to 1984 she succeeded Konstantinos Th. Dimaras as Professor of Modern Greek Language and Literature at the Université Paris IV Sorbonne and head of the Institut Neo-héllenique there . From 1992 to 2000 she was an advisor to the Greek Cultural Foundation ( Ελληνικό Ίδρυμα Πολιτισμού ). From 1999 to 2008 she was visiting professor in the Department of Political Science of the Law Faculty of the University of Athens and in the Department of Byzantine and Neo-Greek Studies of the University of Cyprus .

She was a member of numerous learned societies, including the long-standing chairman of the Greek Society for Cartography ( Ελληνική Εταιρεία Χαρτογραφίας ) and the Society for the Study of the Enlightenment in Greece ( Όμιλος Μελέτης ) Δστοτο ( λιναω since 196λιναω ( λινα seitηλιναω ( λιναω ).

Research priorities

Her first publication in the Greek journal Der schehre Hermes (Ἑρμῆς ὁ Λόγιος, published 1811–1821 in Vienna ), which was published in 1947, led to a momentous encounter with Konstantinos Dimaras, with whom she was to work for decades. The focus of her work was the history of modern Greek literature and education in relation to European intellectual history and the Greek Enlightenment from the 17th to the 19th century (among others Theophilos Kaïris ). Other aspects were Greek publishing , the history of the Greek press and travel. On various occasions she edited the correspondence of Greek intellectuals ( Daniil Philippidis , Barbié du Bocage and Anthimos Gazis; Theoklitos Farmakidis and Konstantinos Asopios). She was also involved in the multi-volume edition of Adamantios Korais ' correspondence . After all, she was co-editor of a collection of photographs that Hubert Pernot had taken in Greece.
