Henri Tonnet

Henri Tonnet (* 1942 ) is a French neo-Greekist and professor of modern Greek language and culture at the University of Paris IV – Sorbonne .

After studying the Lettres classiques and the modern Greek language and literature at the Sorbonne, which he completed with a Doctorat de 3e cycle in Modern Greek, Tonnet acquired the Doctorat d'État in ancient Greek in 1979 with a thèse on the Attic historian Arrian . Tonnet then initially held the chair for Modern Greek at INALCO . Since 2003 he has been Professor of Modern Greek Language and Culture at the University of Paris IV. He is also director of the Institut Néo-hellénique of the Sorbonne, editor of the Revue des Études Néo-helléniques , the Cahiers balkaniques and president of the Société des Études néo-helléniques .

In the field of classical philology, Tonnet has dealt with the historian Arrian and his attic writings. In the area of ​​modern Greek, Tonnet works both linguistically and literarily, especially on novels and novellas . He also works as a translator of modern Greek literature.
